For a covered ADOC offender, gather enough identifiers before using VNS. The AIS number is best when known. Full legal name, date of birth, and case context can help avoid false matches. If the person was only in the Franklin County Detention Center before trial, not finding the person in VNS may reflect coverage limits rather than proof that the person was never in custody.
